Justice for ‪Rajath Menon‬:Hundreds of residents hold meeting to check sale of drugs

Four days after 14-year-old Rajath Menon was allegedly beaten to death in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase 3 by two brothers, hundreds of residents including Rajath’s parents held a meeting at a community centre to keep to check on the sale of drugs in the area.


During the meeting, the residents formed a committee to keep track of the sale of drugs in the area. It is alleged that two brothers, who were the sons of a man running a paan shop in the area, accused Rajath of stealing “something from their shop”. The two brothers later took Rajath to a park and allegedly had a scuffle with him, which led to his death. Residents alleged that the son of of the paan shop owner sold drugs in the area.




A resident said that the sale of drugs in the area is never taken seriously. “The police and the the authorities are acting after Rajath’s death. We have decided to stop the drug menace now, at this point,” he added.
Meanwhile the relatives of the victim demanded that the two brothers — who claimed to be minors — be tried as adults in this case. “We met the police officer and requested them to treat them as adults. They have said that they are looking into the matter,” said Laxmi Kant, a relative of Rajath.
